1. Burj Khalifa, Dubai – 828m. At present Burj Khalifa is at the top of the list. It can be seen from 95 km away and is almost twice as tall as the Empire State Building in New York It took a workforce of more than 12,000 workers of 30 different nationalities to build it.
2. Mecca Royal Clock Tower Hotel, Mecca – 601m. It is the tallest of the Abraj Al-Bait Towers, a residential and hotel complex comprising 7 buildingswith a total floor area of 2,800,000 m2. Boasting a total of 120 stories, it has the largest clock faces in the world, each measuring 43 m x 43 m. The clock’s lighting system is made up of two million leds.
3. Taipei 101, Taipei – 508m. The Taipei 101 is the tallest green building on the planet. It saves 2,995 tons of CO2 a year, which is the equivalent of preventing 4 hectares of forest from being felled every year, and uses 30% less air conditioning and electric light than the average.
4. Shanghai World Financial Center, Shanghai – 492m. One of its most distinguishing features is the trapezoid aperture at the peak, which is designed to reduce the stresses of wind pressure on the building. It has one of the most spectacular observation decks in the world on the 97th floor, which also boasts a glass floor.
5. International Commerce Center, Hong Kong – 484m. This building features a shopping mall, a luxury hotel and the Sky 100, a panoramic observation deck located on the 100th floor.
