This edition of “The Pleasures of Life” features three of the most interesting, distinctive wine cellars in Spain. These vineyards provide an opportunity for you to taste excellent wines through a full understanding of the cultural values and characteristic identity of the land and its people.

Bodegas Enate: A must if you visit the Somontano, in the province of Huesca. Bodegas Enate are a blend of art and wine-making, a winery-museum housing artworks by renowned artists such as Chillida and José María Subirachs, among others. Recognised for their labels, which are all illustrated by well-known artists, and for a wine whose delicate nuances are always a surprise, Bodegas Enate are a spectacular combination of nature, architecture and art, an approach to wine based on culture and respect for the environment.

Bodegas López de Heredia Viña Tondonia: The oldest winery in Haro and one of the first three to be founded in La Rioja. Boasting nearly 140 years of history, the Bodegas López de Heredia are distinguished by their family tradition. Oak wood plays a key role in this winery, since its wines are both fermented and aged in oak barrels using artisanal, completely natural methods. The oak is of fundamental importance, since it is the only winery in Spain that handcrafts all the barrels in which its wines are aged. Known as “the catedral of wine”, the winery is famous for its charming catacombs, where some of its hundred-year-old wines are stored.

Bodegas Jean León: Located in Torrelavit (Penedés), the Jean León label pioneered the making of wine using nothing but French grapevines in Spain. Its founder, Ceferino Carrión, who subsequently changed his name to Jean León, was a man with a fascinating, charismatic and unlikely story. He emigrated to the US at the age of nineteen and won over the hearts of the leading Hollywood stars and celebrities of the 50s and 60s. His spirit lives on in a winery whose wines are listed as “vi de finca”, a denomination that guarantees that the wine comes from a specific vineyard, thus ensuring the full expression of a unique personality.
